- OBITUARY: LeVernne B. SlagleLeVernne B. Slagle, age 87, of Massillon, died Monday, November 14, 2005, at Doctors Hospital. He was born March 6, 1918 in Bucyrus, OH, son of the late Milford G. Slagle and the late Olive (Ballou) Slagle. Mr. Slagle owned and operated Reliable Heating and Cooling from 1959 to 1998. He was a veteran and served in the Army Infantry 220th Field Battalion 44th Division during World War II. He was a 1939 graduate of Ohio State University. Many of his friends will remember him for his service and volunteer work with Noon Optimist, Massillon Senior Center, Massillon Girls and Boys Club, and Massillon Public Library. He was a former member of NAACP, American Civil Liberties Union, and was past president of the Massillon Urban League. He is survived by his wife of 11 years, Dorothy (Hassel) Slagle; son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Maude Slagle all of Massillon; daughter and son-in-law, Noreen and Larry Green of Stuart, FL; step- daughter, Mindi Berg and stepdaughter and son-in-law, Richelle and Brad Laipply, all of Massillon; brother and sister-in-law, Gene and Emily Slagle of Marion, OH; five grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn L. (Glasgow) Slagle who died August 9, 1990, and a sister Lucille Cole. Arrangements are being handled by Heitger Funeral Service- Jackson Chapel.
