Birth: May 2, 1923 Mahto Corson County South Dakota, USA Death: May 4, 2007 Mobridge Walworth County South Dakota, USA Mass of Christian Burial for Leuna Keller, 84, of McLaughlin will be Thursday, May 10, at St. Bernard's Catholic Church in McLaughlin with Fr. Tony Grossenburg as celebrant. Burial will be in the McLaughlin City Cemetery under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge. Leuna died Friday evening, May 4, 2007, at the Golden LivingCenter in Mobridge, where she had been making her home since January 2007. She was born May 2, 1923, on the family farm north of Mahto to August and Lydia (Halfenstein) Mettler. She attended country school near Mahto and high school in McLaughlin, where she graduated from high school. On Feb. 9, 1942, Leuna married Wendelin C. Keller. They resided on the farm for 30 years before moving into McLaughlin in 1972. She went to work at the hospital clinic and at the bowling alley, to the delight of the pie eaters. Leuna was famous for her cream pies. She was a member of St. Bernard's Church choir, the Altar Society, and the Senior Citizens Center. Always neat and attractively dressed, Leuna liked being out and about. In her quieter moments she enjoyed crocheting and gardening. Her world revolved around her grandchildren and to them, grandma's house was the place to be. She leaves three sons, Andrew Keller of Lafayette, La., Paul (Marjorie) Keller of Mobridge, and Tim (Colleen) Keller of McLaughin; one son-in-law, Bill Sherwood Jr. of McLaughlin; 15 grandchildren and numerous great and great-great-grandchildren. Her husband Wendelin in 1995, a daughter, Vicky Sherwood, and three brothers, Otto, Milton and Norman Mettler, preceded her in death. Casketbearers will be Lance Keller, Breau Keller, Sean Keller, Matthew Keller, Josh Keller, Luke Keller, Steven Sherwood, Dennis Sherwood and William Sherwood III. Honorary bearers are the staff at the Golden LivingCenter, St. Bernard's choir, Dr. Colette Ducheneaux and Leuna's special friend Lorraine.
