The life of the tenth child of Balthasar and Dorothy Deitrich, Emmett, has a beginning and an ending but the middle is a mystery. Perhaps you, the reader, can help fill in the blank years and missing information of Emmett's life.

Emmett was born 22 January, 1869 in North Sewickley, Beaver County, Pa. His baptism in June of that year took place in the family church, St. John's United Evangelical Protestant Church, "Burry's Church," New Sewickly Twp., Beaver Co, Pa. Emmett, along with his family, moved to New Brighton, Pa. between 1894 and 1895.

He seems to have married Catharine Boeshaar in New Brighton, Beaver Co., Pa. about 1896. He had met her in North Sewickly, possibly at church. (They both attended Burry's Church.) However, a marriage certificate has not been located. Catherine and Emmett had two children: Elmer B. and Ada V. By 1900, "Kate" and the two children are living with a family named "John Miller" on Penn Avenue, New Brighton, Pa. and lists herself as a widow. Emmett seems to have disappeared...from census records, military records, city directories, etc.

In 1923, Emmett is in Washington, Pa., very much alive, and marrying the widow of his brother George! His bride, Rhetta (Alrhetta) Veiock, was 43. Emmett was 53. He was working as a cook. His marriage license indicates that he had never married. (The birth certificate for Ada V. Veiock clearly states that her parents are "Emmett Veiock and Catherine Veiock".)

George had died in July, 1922. Emmett had not attended the funeral. George and Rhetta had had two girls, Sadie and Dorothy, so Emmett became their stepfather.

Emmett continued to live in Washington, Pa., with Rhetta until his death on 8 May 1940. He is buried in Washington Cemetery, Washington Co., Pa. His Death Certificate stated that he had epilepsy. Could this explain the missing years and the forgotten marriage??

Emmett married Catherine Boeshaar about 1894 in Pennsylvania, USA. Catherine (daughter of Daniel Böshaar and Karoline Müller) was born on 10 Jan 1873 in Pennsylvania, USA; died on 31 Dec 1922 in Pennsylvania, USA. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]
