    The eight child of Balthasar and Dorothea Deitrich Veiock lived a wonderfully long and caring 87 years. Andrew Johnson was president when she was born in North Sewickley Township, Beaver County, Pa. At the age of 19, she married John McD. Willis, 21, in New Brighton, Beaver County, Pa., on 28 September, 1886. She and John lived in that town most of their married life, raising 4 children to adulthood: 1) Dora (thy) M. Willis b. Feb., 1888; 2) Edna V. Willis b. 28, Oct. 1893; 3) Clyde Leslie Willis b. 15 Jan., 1894, and 4) George W. Willis b. 20 June 1897. John worked as a cooper in a keg works.

    Dora married and moved to Los Angeles, California with her husband George A. Kempel. When Dora became ill, Amanda and John traveled to California in 1925 to be with her and help with her two little girls, Edna May and Elizabeth Kempel. Unfortunately, Dora died 21 October, 1925 at the age of 38. This was the only child that Amanda and John had to bury.

    Their daughter Edna married Richard Horstman in 1911 and lived their life in New Brighton raising a boy (Willis R. Horstman) and a girl (Dorothy M Horstman.)

    Son Clyde Leslie Willis married Grace E. Middleton Shrum and had a daughter, Beatrice. Beatrice died November 1940.

    George W. Willis married Ruth A. Shively and had a daughter, Constance. The boys ran Willis Brothers Retail Grocery in New Brighton. George served in World War I, from 26 July, 1918 and was discharged in 1919.

    After Amanda's sister, Adaline Veiock Bagnell died in 1916, John and Amanda took in and cared for their neice, Helen M. Bagnell. The girl was about 10 at the time. Amanda and John also took care of Amanda's aging parents, Balthasar and Dorothea Veiock. For this, Balthasar sold her his house for $1.00 in 1910.

    In 1940, Amanda traveled to "Little" Washington, Pa., to attend the funeral of her brother, Emmett. Her husband, John, died in November, 1935.

    Amanda lived through the terms of 15 presidents although she could only vote in the last 4 elections. Her life ended when Eisenhower was in office. She was 87. She was a Methodist, a member of the American Legion and Dames of Malta. She is buried in Grove Cemetery, New Brighton, Beaver Co., Pa
