    Edward Neuharth family Edward is the oldest child of Jacob Neuharth, who was born in the Menno area February 10, 1884, died April 5, 1964 and Fredrica Aman, born in Eureka January 14, 1887, died June 22, 1938, daughter of Henry Aman, Sr. Edward was born October 30, 1906, attended school and lived on a farm with his parents seven miles northeast of Eureka. He has seven brothers and sisters: Emil; Fred (deceased); Anna, Mrs. John Weishaar; Bertha Krause, Mrs. Alvin Hauck; Ruben; Henry; and Esther, Mrs. Julius Pfeiffer. Adeline is the oldest child of Henry Schnabel, Eureka, born April 24, 1887, died December 27, 1970 and Paulina Berreth, Eureka, born May 2, 1890, died June 12, 1970. Adeline was born June 21, 1908 and attended school 12 miles northeast of Eureka. She has seven brothers and sisters: Otto; Edna, Mrs. Fred Neuharth (deceased); Edmund; Alvin; Gerta, Mrs. Bert Rieger; Reinhold and Elmer (deceased). Edward and Adeline were married on November 11, 1928 at the Glucksthal Reformed Church. They purchased a farm ten miles northeast of Eureka where they lived for 27 years. In 1956 they retired, purchased a house at 504 10th Street, Eureka, where they lived with the exception of six months spent in Lodi, California during the winter months of 1967-68. An annual trek to Lodi was a strong consideration, however did not materialize as Edward passed away on June 8, 1968. Their descendents are: Amanda, born November 16, 1929, married Walter Orth of Artas. They live in Lodi, California. Grandchildren: Gordon and Dale; great grandchildren are Daniel and Kimberly. Alfred, born May 13, 1932, married Laverne Ottenbacher, Eureka, they live on the Eureka family farm. Grandchildren are Bradley, Tamara, Kenneth, Ronald, and Rhonda. Alton, born October 6, 1935, died May 6, 1936. Milbert, born May 14, 1939, married Jeanette Fischer-Martin of Eureka, they live in Eureka. Grandchildren: Natalie and Brenda; great grandchild is Natasha. Floyd, born October 12, 1943, died October 14, 1943. On April 14, 1971 Adeline and Gotthilf Mehlhaff were married at the Eureka Reformed Church. Gotthilf was born in the Eureka area November 14, 1900 and died March 27 1982. Adeline continues to live in Eureka, is a member of the Reformed Ladies Aid, enjoys embroidering, crocheting and reading.

    ALFRED AND LAVERNE NEUHARTH

    Alfred Neuharth was born May 13, 1932 to Edward and Adeline (Schnabel) Neuharth
    at Eureka. He has one sister living in Lodi, Amanda Orth, and one brother,
    Milbert, living in Eureka. His brothers, Alton and Floyd, are deceased.

    Alfred attended rural school in Rosenthal Township and, on August 23, 1959 he
    married Laverne Marion Ottenbacher, daughter of Herbert and Viola (Rau)
    Ottenbacher. Laverne was born March 27, 1939 in Eureka. Laverne has two
    brothers: Herman, Watertown, South Dakota; Arnold, Aberdeen, South Dakota; and
    one sister, Eunice, Raquette Lake, New York.

    Laverne attended rural school in Bauer Township and graduated from Eureka High
    School in 1957. After graduation she began working as a bookkeeper for the
    Eureka Equity Exchange, where she was employed until 1965.

    Alfred and Laverne have five children, Bradley, Tamara, Kenneth, Ronald and
    Rhonda.

    Bradley Alan, born March 1, 1961, graduated from Eureka High School in 1979 and
    from Lake Area Vocational Technical Institute at Watertown in 1981. He
    currently farms with his parents.

    Tamara Kay, born January 23, 1962, graduated from Eureka High School in 1980
    and attended USD in Vermillion for three years, majoring in speech pathology.
    She currently attends SDSU in Brookings majoring in nursing. She will become
    the bride of Brian Kirkvold on August 1, 1986 and will be living in Hendricks,
    Minnesota.

    Kenneth Alfred, born March 16, 1965, graduated from Eureka High School in 1983
    and currently attends SDSU majoring in computer science.

    Ronald Lee and Rhonda Dee were born October 4, 1966 and graduated from Eureka
    High School in 1984. They currently attend SDSU where Ron is majoring in
    economics and Rhonda majors in English.

    Alfred has farmed all his life in Rosenthal Township. Laverne is currently
    employed at the Eureka Community Hospital in the dietary and housekeeping
    departments.

    The Neuharth's are affiliated with the Eureka Reformed Church.
