WALTER E. AYMOND
1918 - 2009

Capt. (retired) Walter E. Aymond, USN, received clearance for his final flight and departed on the evening of Sept 1, 2009, bound for a reunion with his beloved Misslu.
Throughout his life, Walt possessed a "joie de vie" that allowed him to blend work and play seamlessly.
Growing up in Washington, LA, as a young man he traveled West spending a year as a ranch hand in Texas and working in the office of an architectural firm in San Francisco, CA.
He returned to Louisiana, met and married the love of his life, Lucille, they attended USL together before Walt went to Tulane University where he completed his degree in Architecture.
Enlisting in the U.S. Naval Reserves in the early 1940's, he embarked on a career as a Naval Aviator. Capt. Aymond loved to fly, starting out flying blimps and piloting jets before he retired, Capt. Aymond travelled the world and served in three wars in his 28 years with the Navy.
Retiring to Hawaii in 1969, he worked on research grants for the Oceanic Institute, while studying at the Honolulu Academy of Arts.
In 1973 Walt and Lu moved back to Pensacola, designing and building their retirement home on Perdido Key. Walt returned to school recieving a master's degree in Communication Arts from UWF. He wrote, illustrated and published a couple of children's books, while he and Lu worked for sustainable development on Perdido Key.
After losing Lu, he sold the house on Perdido Key and moved to Azalea Trace then back to Hawaii in 2005, where he spent his final years.
Activist, advisor, architect, artist, author, aviator... Walt's accomplishments are too numerous to list and he took great pleasure in his many and varied endeavors.
He accomplished all these things while being the best Dad that his five children could ever hope to be blessed with. He will be greatly missed by all who knew the twinkle of a smile in his eyes and his delightful sense of humor.
Captain Aymond's remains will be interred with Lu's at Barrancas National Cemetary, Pensacola NAS.
