Obit: The death of Mr. Jacob Burkhart, a former resident of this place, occurred at his home in Newark, Wednesday, February 9, following a nervous affliction and complications.
The deceased was born near Miltonsburg, January 18, 1852, and was the son of Frederick and Margaret Burkhart. He was a farmer in his early life and for a number of years kept hotel in Barnesvile in the Meyers property on South Chestnut Street. Since living in Newark, he has been engaged in the real estate business.
Mr. Burkhart was twice married, the first wife being Miss Barbara Smith of the Miltonsburg neighborhood and six children were born to them four of whom are living. His second wife was Miss Mary Malone of Temperanceville and to this union six children were born, two of whom are living.
Besides his wife and children, he is survived by two brothers and three sisters: William Burkhart, Alliance; Nicholas Burkhart, Mrs. Barbara Reischman, Barnesville, Mrs. Annie Singer, Canton, Mrs. Mary Magalene Hilferding, Belpre, Ohio.
Funeral services were held Saturday morning at 9 o'clock in the Newark Catholic Church of which the deceased was a member and the remains were brought to Miltonsburg Saturday afternoon for burial in the Catholic Cemetery.
