On March 16, 1922, he married Katie Roth who was born in Venturia, North Dakota on February 9, 1902. They both completed an elementary education. George and Katie farmed from 1922 until 1968 except the period from June of 1939 to September of 1940 when they lived in Eureka and operated a Texaco service station. Their children include Norma (Mrs. Ernest) Meyer, Forbes, North Dakota; Harold (deceased, November, 1978); Calvin, Eureka, South Dakota; Gladys (Mrs. Harvey) Schmidt, Newbury Park, California; Dennis, Hartford, Connecticut; and George, Jr. (deceased). During his lifetime, George was county assessor, county commissioner, school board and church board member. He enjoyed sporting events while Katie enjoyed gardening. They both liked traveling in their retirement years. George J. Neuharth died August 8, 1974. Katie died November 24, 1981.
