Kent Greenhalgh

GREENHALGH Kent Greenhalgh, age 74, passed away on Wednesday, December 1, 2010. Preceded in death by parents Charles and Elizabeth Greenhalgh. He was born August 8, 1936 in Bellaire, OH., and was a 1955 graduate of McKinley Vocational High School, Wheeling W.V. He worked briefly for the Wheeling Steel Corporation blast furnace #4 in Benwood, W.V. He was married to the former Janet Paulus, and then enlisted in the US Navy where he witnessed the last atomic bomb tests conducted in the atmosphere. During these tests he crossed the equator and International Date line numerous times. He was honorably discharged as Boatswain Mate second class. He and his family moved to Columbus, OH in 1964 where he went to work for the Otis Elevator Co. He also joined the Union of Elevator Constructors and was a member of IUEC Local 37, and stayed at the trade for 35 years, after that he went to work for the State of Ohio as an elevator inspector. His other interests were water skiing, boat building, chess, computers, restoring antique cars and flying his powered parachute. He was a lifetime member of the Columbus Aqua Ski Club, where he served as president and vice president for many years. He is survived by the mother of his children, Janet; daughter, Jennifer; sons, Christopher and Scott (Penny); grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Lauren, Courtney and Cortlan. Friends may call at JERRY SPEARS FUNERAL HOME, 2693 W. Broad St., Friday 4-7 p.m. Graveside service and interment 10 a.m. Saturday at Linwood Cemetery, Bellaire, OH.
