Dates of birth and death taken from Ackerman/Metzner tombstone in St. John's Cemetery, Middle Village, NY (directly across from the Baier gravesite). Tombstone inscription says "Mary Ackerman, nee Metzner." According to Harriet Stokes, she was told that Mary, already widowed when Joseph Ackerman's wife died, thereupon helped Joseph raise his children. Mary later married him. "Scandalously," Joseph was Mary's son-in-law, since his late wife, Barbara, was either Mary's daughter or step-daughter. Based on the tombstone dates, John was nine years older than Mary, and could have been married previously. John died in 1911, and Joseph Ackerman's wife died in 1920 when their daughter, Barbara was not quite five years old. Joseph's wife, born in Nov 1882, is the right age to have been John Metzner's daughter. Thus, while Mary married her son-in-law, Joseph Ackerman, he was actually her age, having taken a much younger woman for his first wife. - CFS

Regarding Joseph John Ackermann #57 The notes from Charles Schretzman are
speculative and not entirely correct. He states that he took the dates
from the tombstones at St. John's Cemetery. I visited this cemetery myself
and noted that he got several of the dates wrong. Joseph's wife Barbara
was born in 1892 not 1882 as he states in his notes. Also not relative
here, her father was John Metzner b. Feb. 6 1866 d. Dec. 17 1911. It took
me a great deal of research but I finally found the correct relationship
of Joseph and his second wife Anna Mary Baier. John Metzner's first wife
was Elizabeth Eberhardt b. Mar. 16 1867 d. Sep. 3 1901. Elizabeth
Eberhardt b. Mar. 16 1867 d. Sep. 3 1901,is Barbara Metzners mother. Anna
Mary Baier was John Metzner's second wife. Therefore after Barbara's death
in 1920 Joseph married Sep. 11 1921, his step mother-in-law, Anna Mary
Baier b. Jan. 13 1875 d. Sep.11 1935. She was 11 years his senior in age.
Mary Anna Metzner, Joseph's second wife after Barbara's death was Barbara's step mother. This theory has been proven by review of the death certificate for Elizabeth Metzner born Elizabeth Eberhardt.
