Death Summons Matilda Egger
Woodsfield, Feb. 17 – Mrs. Matilda M. Egger, 89, of Lewisville, died at 11
o’clock this morning at the home of a niece, Mrs. Leroy Peters of Woodsfield
Rt. 3, following an illness of one week. She had been in failing health for
some time.
She was born Sept. 26, 1863 near Lewisville, a daughter of Fred and Catherine
Rose Geldmacher. She was married July 29, 1890 to John S. Egger, who died in
1936. He operated a hardware store at Lewisville for many years.
Mrs. Egger was a member of the St. John’s Evangelical and Reformed church.
She was president of the Monroe county WCTU for 25 years.
Surviving are eight nieces and five nephews.
The body is at the Schumacher funeral home where brief services will be held
at 1 o’clock Friday afternoon followed by additional rites at 2 o’clock at the
St. John’s Evangelical and Reformed church (Middle church) near Lewisville.
Rev. George Varner will officiate. Burial will be in Friendship cemetery at
Lewisville.
