Obituary: ZANESVILLE -- Catherine P. Burkhart Baum, 97, of Zanesville, died at 8:22p.m. Monday, Aug. 9, 2004, at Willow Haven Nursing Home, after a lengthy illness. She was born Sunday, March 17, 1907, in La Junta, Colo., the daughter of Francis F. and Susan O'Brien Burkhart. She was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church and retired following 60 years in the nursing profession. She was a graduate of the Good Samaritan School of Nursing,class of 1930, and was employed as a registered nurse at Good SamaritanHospital, Muskingum College, and Rambo Health Clinic. She was a chartermember of the Good Samaritan Charity Circle and a member of the GoodSamaritan Nurses Alumni Association. Surviving are a daughter, Mary Sue (Tom) Slater of Adamsville; a son,Richard F. "Dick" (Patricia) Baum of Zanesville; five grandchildren,Chris Baum of Zanesville, Mike (Suzi) Slater of Zanesville, Andy(Michelle) Slater of Altus, Okla., Susie Slater of Findley, and MollieSlater of Columbus; and a sister-in-law, Evelyn Burkhart of Zanesville. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband,Christopher A. Baum, who died Feb. 27, 1986; and a granddaughter, KatieSlater. Calling hours will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 12, at Hillis& Hardwick Funeral Home, 935 Forest Ave. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Aug.13, 2004, at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, with Father JordanLenaghan as celebrant.
