Paul Edward Young YOUNG Paul Edward Young, age 76, died of cancer, Monday, June 23, 2008, at his home in Columbus. A native of Ohio, he was born in Cleveland, to Paul and Hulda (Landefeld) Young on March 5, 1932. He grew up in Miltonsburg, and attended high school in Woodsfield, where he met the former Barbara Allyn Traylor, whom he married on August 16, 1958. Paul is survived by his wife, Barbara; son, Bret Young; daughters, Lisa Lee and Sara Young; sons-in-law, Robert Lee and Steffen Roegner; sister, Judy Young; and grandchildren, Amanda and Bo Lee. Paul graduated from The Ohio State University with a Bachelor in Architecture in 1955, after which he served 2 years as an officer with the Army Corps of Engineers in Newfoundland. His career also included 2 years as a civilian architectural consultant for the Air Force Exchange in Wiesbaden, Germany, and a position as a project architect with Tully and Hobbs in Columbus. While practicing architecture in Columbus, he was also an adjunct faculty member at Ohio State's School of Architecture, an experience which led to his decision to devote his career to teaching. He went on to receive his Masters in Architecture from the University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana in 1966. He taught at the University of Illinois and Ohio University, where he served as Acting Director of the School of Architecture, Design and Planning, before accepting a position at Ohio State in 1969. He was Chairman of the Department of Architecture at The Ohio State University from 1970 to 1978 and full Professor at The Ohio State University Knowlton School of Architecture until his retirement in 2002. The Distinguished Faculty Service Award from the Knowlton School of Architecture in 1997 and the Distinguished Service Award from Ohio State in 2007 recognized his devotion to his students, his passion for teaching, and his unfailing committment to the school of architecture and the university. Professor Young's dedicated and inspirational service in coordinating the Campus Master Plan continues to influence the university's built environment and through it the academic mission of The Ohio State University. Memorial services will be held in Woodsfield, OH at the Bauer and Turner Funeral Home on Thursday, July 10, 2008 at 1 p.m. and in Columbus at Northwest Christian Church, 1340 Fishinger Road on Saturday, July 12, 2008 at 1 p.m. A reception will follow each service. It is with great sadness that the Knowlton School of Architecture remembers Emeritus Professor Paul Edward Young. Paul succumbed to cancer on Monday, June 23rd at his home in Columbus.
A native of Ohio, he was born in Cleveland, to Paul and Hulda (Landefeld) Young on March 5, 1932.
