He came to the USA in 1830; had a shoe business in the 1840s; was a lawyer during the Civil War; police justice; politics; He and Bernard Klem were the prime movers in the erection of St. Joseph's church in 1849. According to his 1896 obituary, he had the following children living: John B. Wegman, Louis A. Wegman, Magdalena Wegman, Amelia Wegman, and Mrs. P. Grady.In 1856 they were living on Clinton street. His death record lists his age as 84 years and 11 months, of 140 Adam s St., bn. Germany, died of prostatitis.DIEDWEGMAN - In this city, at his late residence, 140 Adams street, March 29, 1896, John WEGMAN, aged 85 years. The oldest part of Holy Sepulchre is the lots on the east side of Lake Avenue.
