Matz, C. A. Matz [Christian Adam Matz] Source: Ashland [Ohio] Times Gazette; 12 Oct 1946 C. A. Matz Dies Today At Age 82 C. A. Matz, 82, died at four o'clock this morning at his home, 635 West Main street. Death followed an illness of four months due to a stroke. The son of Lewis and Christiana Mechlein Matz, the deceased was born March 27, 1864 near Woodsfield in Monroe county. He was married to Louise Latta in July 1901. He is survived by his wife, one son, Lake L. Matz of Ashland, four daughters, Mrs. Rex E. Giar of Spencer, Mrs. J.C. O'Neill of Marion, Indiana, Miss Marguerite Matz of Columbus, and Mary, at home, three grandchildren, Joe and Mary Ann Giar of Spencer and David Matz of Ashland, six sisters, and two brothers. He was preceded in death by two brothers and his parents. Funeral services will be held at two o'clock Monday afternoon from the Gilbert Funeral Home, in charge of Rev. H. H. Lentz. Burial will be made in Ashland cemetery. The body will be at the funeral home where friends may call Sunday afternoon from two to four o'clock and Sunday evening from seven to nine o'clock. Christian Adam Matz Christian Adam Matz was born on March 27, 1864 near Woodsfield, Ohio in Monroe County. Christian and Lou Ellen Latta , were married on July 16, 1901 in Monroe County, Ohio by Rev. Thes. A. Hofell. Lou Ellen was born on March 31, 1871, the daughter of John and Mary J. Morris Latta. Christian was a carpenter by trade. Christian, Lou Ellen and five children lived in Lewisville, Ohio until about 1916 when they moved to Ashland, Ohio. Christian, age 83, passed away Saturday morning, October 12, 1946, at his home in Ashland. He suffered a stroke for two months and then followed by another stroke. Funeral services were held on Monday afternoon in at the Gilbert funeral home in Ashland with Rev. H.H. Lentz in charge. Burial was in Ashland cemetery. Christian?s sisters, Rachel Christman and Elizabeth Hines, and his brother Wm. F. Matz attended the funeral.
