Andrew SchoendienstAndrew J. "Ducks" Schoendienst, 93, of Belleville, Ill., born Aug. 2, 1913, in Germantown, Ill., died Saturday, June 16, 2007, at St. Elizabeth Hospital, Belleville, Ill.Mr. Schoendienst was an operator and repairman at Monsanto Chemical Company, Sauget, Ill., for 29 years. He was a founding member of St. Augustine of Canterbury Catholic Church, Belleville, Ill., and a member of the Holy Name Society at the church. He was also a former member of the Anglers Club of Belleville. Mr. Schoendienst was a World War II U.S. Army veteran and a member of VFW Belleville Post 1739.He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Mary, nee Schlarmann, Schoendienst; three brothers Julius"Charlie" Schoendienst, Eugene "Mickey" Schoendienst and Elmer "Yonner" Schoendienst; a sister, Loretta Billhartz; a grandson, Joseph Schomber; a sister-in-law, Mary Schoendienst; and a brother-in-law, Victor Billhartz.Surviving are his wife of 63 years, Valeria H., nee Wegmann, Schoendienst, whom he married Nov. 9, 1943, in Damiansville, Ill.; his daughters, Janet (David) Billhartz of rural O'Fallon, Ill., and Susan (Michael) Schomber of Maryville, Ill.; his son, Andrew (Lorelei) Schoendienst of Fairview Heights, Ill.; six grandchildren, Jill Billhartz, Jeanne (Gordon) Mitchell, Christy (Eric) Fortin, Christopher (Robin) Schomber, Anne Schomber and Andrew Schoendienst Jr.; five great-grandchildren, Cameron Mitchell, Abigail Mitchell, Sophia Billhartz-DeManty, Gabriella Billhartz-DeManty, and Mia Schomber; two brothers, Albert "Red" Schoendienst, and Joseph (Irene) Schoendienst both of St. Louis, Mo.; three sisters-in-law, Stella Schoendienst, Loretta "Toots" Schoendienst and Lavita Schoendienst; and numerous nieces and nephews. Memorials may be made to The Cambridge House Ministry of St. Nicholas Catholic Church of O'Fallon, Ill., to the Belleville Diocesan Ministry to the Sick and Aged or to St. Augustine of Canterbury Catholic Church. Funeral: Funeral procession will leave at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 20, 2007, from George Renner & Sons Funeral Home, Belleville, Ill., for a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Augustine of Canterbury Catholic Church, Belleville, Ill., with Monsignor Bernard Voss officiating.
