She was born on September 6, 1940, in Lebanon, Missouri to Gene and Sara Rice and was raised in the Catholic Faith. Joann married Ervin Caveness and they were married for 49 years. She has lived in the Okanogan Valley since 1972. Joann attended Wenatchee Valley College. She worked as a cook. Joann also worked for the Okanogan County Jail for 10 years, retiring in 1999. She is survived by her husband of 49 years, Ervin Caveness of Omak; daughter, Lois and her husband, Neal Bertram of Omak; son, Ervin and his wife, Debbie Caveness of Wenatchee; daughter, Brenda and her husband, Mark Webster of Omak; son, James and his wife, Lois Rice of Tonasket; fourteen grandchildren, Mike and his wife, Kym, James and his wife, Jenny, Brandon, Amy and her husband Eduardo, all of Omak, Sara and her husband, Chris, Ervin Jr., Molly of Wenatchee, Melissa, Mindy and her husband, Sean, Mark Jr., Marty and Matthew of Omak, Brittany, Jeremy of Okanogan; twelve great-grandchildren, Janes Jr., Joshua, Jada Bertram, Clayton, Brice, Dayton, Denny, Alyssa Bertram, McKayla Ford, Eduardo Velasquez, all of Omak, Meena Yager of Spokane, Serina, Andrew Packwood of East Wenatchee; ex daughter-in-law, Dawn Applebee; numerous nieces and nephews; and 65 years worth of good friends; step-mother, Mozel Caveness; sister, BeBe of Texas; Diana, Doyle, Monica Penelton; son, Billy McDowell. She was preceded in death by her mother, Sara in 1980; her father, Gene in 1986; and infant brohter, Bobbie Dean. Services will be held on Tuesday, December 13, 2005, at 1:00 p.m. at the Precht-Harrison-Nearents Chapel in Okanogan. Visitation will be on Monday, December 12, 2005, from 4-8 p.m. at the Chapel. Interment will be held at the Okanogan City Cemetery. Precht-Harrison-Nearents Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
