ohn Zimmer was son of William W. Zimmer and Elizabeth Feiock. He was born in 1868 in Rochester, NY, the oldest of their four children (Amelia, William Bernard and Edward George were his siblings). John married first Minnie Wolff on 25 November 1897and they had Layton Allen Zimmer on September 16, 1899. Minnie died at that time and John remarried Carolyn ? John and Carolyn had Thora, who married Howard Wood. (See Minnie's father Abraham B. Wolff's obit on Wolff board).

Dr. John Zimmer Expires Unexpectedly --In City Employ For 27 Years--Retired Five Years Ago
The funeral of Dr. John Zimmer, who died unexpectedly yesterday at his home, 196 Ridge Road East, will take place from the home tomorrow at 2:30 p.m. with Masonic services.
The Rev. G.B.F. Hallock will officiate and burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery.
Dr. Zimmer was prominent for many years in the medical profession in Rochester and was a city health physician for 27 years, retiring in 1923 because of ill health. He began his duties with the city when the health work was under the old Charities Department and continued for three years after the organization of the Rochester Health Bureau, when his resignation was received by Dr. George W. Goler, health officer, with regret.
Dr. Zimmer's work was carried on in one of the most densely populated of the 20 health districts. Following his retirement from the Health Bureau he carried on his private practise.
Dr. Zimmer was graduated from the University of Pennsylvania in 1892 and was in hospital work for two years in Philadephia and in St. Mary's Hospital in this city.
He was prominent in civic and fraternal organizations, being a life member of Yonnondio Lodge, 163, F. and A. M.; Doric Council, 19, Royal and Select Masters; Damascus Temple and Hamilton Chapter, 62, R.A.M. He was also a member of Monroe Commandery, 12, Knights Templar; Maccabees, Court Flower City Lodge, I.O.O.F.; Rochester Lodge, B.P.O.E.; Old Guards; Medical Society of the County of Monro [sic], and Pathological Society of New York, of which he was a past president. Dr. Zimmer had for many years attended Brick Presbyterian Church.
Besides his wife, Carolyn, he leaves a daughter, Mrs. Howard Wood; two brothers, Edward G. of New York City and William B., attorney at the attorney-general's office in Albany, and a son, Lieut. Layton A. Zimmer, who has been assigned for duty in Honolulu.
