She grew up on the family farm in Tampico and was a graduate of St. Mary's Catholic Community High School, Sterling. Here she met & married her high school sweetheart, Bill Newell.Bill & Rose married on December 29, 1952, the same year Bill joined the US Air Force. Bill served in the USAF for 25 years, during which time they traveled throughout the continental US and raised their 10 children.After Bill retired from the USAF in 1976, they returned to Sterling. Rose became an active member of the St. Mary's Catholic Church, the Altar and Rosary Society and the Meals On Wheels program.Rose passed away on March 8, 2016 and will always be remembered as a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother whose greatest passion was helping others.She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 60 years, Bill, in 2012; her parents, Bernard & Catherine; 3 brothers, John, Leo and Tony; and 1 sister, Amelia Schauff Droste.She is survived by 1 brother, Brother James Droste, Society of Mary (Marianists); 10 children: Paul (Penny) Newell, Kathy (Ed) Conway, Terry (Kim) Newell, Kevin (Cindy) Newell, Timothy (Miles) Newell, Peter (Lisa) Newell, Karen (Ed) Groleau, Colleen (Steve) Butts, Chuck (Michelle) Newell and John (Bethany) Newell; 11 grandsons, 6 granddaughters and 4 great-grandsons.
