Blossom ?Bobbie? Schnabel, 109 years and 340 days, formerly of Fessenden, passed away peacefully Monday, April 27, 2020 at the Lutheran Home of the Good Shepherd in New Rockford. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, a private service will be held Saturday, May 2, at 11:00 A.M. at the First Lutheran Church in Fessenden. This service will be live streamed on www.facebook.com/groups/352440698439276/ Visitation will be held one hour before the service at the church. Burial will take place at Hillside Cemetery in Fessenden at a later date. Arrangements are with Nelson Funeral Home of Fessenden.
Blossom Goldie Meitz, first child of Rudolph and Olga (Nikolaus) Meitz, was born May 22, 1910 at Martin, ND. At an early age Bobbie moved with her family to Van Hook, ND where she grew up and attended school. She graduated from high school in 1927. She later enrolled at Minot Teachers College, received her teachers certificate in 1930 and taught in several rural schools for eight years.
On June 28, 1941, Bobbie was married to Walter Schnabel in St. Paul. They took over the family farm south of Harvey in 1943 which they operated until 1949. They then moved to a farm northeast of Fessenden where they farmed until retiring. In 1990 they moved into Fessenden and Walter passed away on December 20, 2000.
Bobbie was a homemaker during her married life. She belonged to the Harmony Homemakers Club, loved to cook, bake, and sewed most of her own clothes even though she was color blind. After retirement she learned to make hand loomed rugs with her friend Ella Lenz and also to knit and crochet.
In 2003 she moved to Holy Family Villa in Carrington where she crocheted at least 70 prayer shawls, donating them to the hospital. When Holy Family Villa closed she moved to the Lutheran Home of the Good Shepherd in New Rockford.
Bobbie is survived by her daughter Shari, and son-in-law Gary Snyder of Big Lake, MN, her sister, Jackie of Puyallup,WA; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter; her parents; sisters, Fern and Grace; and brothers, Franklin and Waldemar.
