- [S927] Obituary.
Larry Loucks, 62 passed away suddenly on Wednesday, May 3, 2006 at his home in Spicewood, Texas. Larry is survived by his wife of 40 years, Pat; sons, Clay and wife Kerry of Richmond, VA, Travis and wife Anna of Austin and grandson, Shane Loucks of Richmond. He is also survived, by his mother, Emline of Noonan, ND and brothers Dean of Denver CO, Barry of Crosby, ND and Quinn of Seattle, WA. Larry graduated from Noonan High School and Minot State University. Upon graduation from college he began a 31 year career with IBM. At the time of his retirement in 1999 he was an IBM fellow and Vice President of Software Technology. He reached the pinnacle of IBM's technical leadership when he was named an IBM fellow in 1989. Among his many professional accomplishments Larry was instrumental in determining the direction IBM set for Office Systems, AIX. Power PC and Linux. Larry lived life to the absolute fullest. He put his heart and soul into everything he did. Whether he was playing tennis, snow skiing, hunting, fishing, traveling, biking or enjoying his ham radio, he was on fast forward. With his cowboy boots on Larry was as comfortable on the North Dakota prairie as in the IBM boardroom. Not only was Larry a great son, brother, husband, father,' grandfather, and friend he was also the Godfather to his nieces, nephews and the children of many of his friends. Larry's greatest joy in life was time spent with his sons, grandson, and the love of his life, Pat. He was a truly unique individual a rare combination of high intelligence, honesty, drive and motivation. Yet under an extremely competitive and straight forward personality was the heart of an exceptionally generous person. His untimely passing will leave a deep void in all the lives that he touched.
