Bio: Rev. Dr. Richard Lee Peltz, renown Corpus Christi educator and minister, died March 31st after a prolonged period of declining health. His passage to eternal life with Jesus Christ was a peaceful transition he had so passionately embraced, as a believer who was full of faith. Dr. Peltz, known to his congregation at South Shore Christian Church as "Pastor Dick," is remembered as a true shepherd to his flock. After achieving excellence in the field of education, he embraced South Shore as his life. Its members were his family. He inspired people to believe in themselves and to accomplish things they did not realize they could. He infused members with positive energy. Part of his legacy is having shepherded seven members of the congregation to become Disciples of Christ pastors. Pastor Dick was born in Saint Louis, MO, the adopted son of the Margaret Peltz and the late Merle Peltz. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from Eureka College in Eureka, Illinois, a Master of Science in Education Administration from Texas A&M University in Corpus Christi, and a Doctor of Divinity degree from Christian Bible College and Seminary in Independence, Missouri. He came to Corpus Christi in 1989 as a elementary music teacher at Sanders. He was a teacher at Chula Vista, a School Services Consultant, principal at Wynn Seal Middle School, administrative officer for Academic Standards and Middle School Reform, principal at Roy Miller High School, and principal coach, school services director and interim principal at both Carroll and Ray High Schools. Wynne Seal was transformed from a low performing campus to an award winning school under his direction. The campus was recognized in USA Today, named Region 2 Outstanding Middle School, and identified as a Texas Exemplary Middle School. His achievements in the field of education and music were befitting of his own career objective as stated in his resume: "To join a team of forward thinking educators in a learning community to positively impact students and staff with new methods of teaching and achieving successful initiatives and goals, specifically with at-risk youth. The ideal environment will foster the growth of problem solvers, change-makers, risk-takers and creators." Pastor Dick applied that same basic outlook to his role as senior pastor at South Shore, where he demonstrated his great love of God, people and music. He came to the church in 1997 as a pianist, then as music director. In 2000, when an interim minister was needed, he volunteer and did such an outstanding job that he was hired as senior minister. To fulfill the requirements for his education pension Dick returned to the CCISD as princals' coach while serving also as an associate pastor at First Christian Church in Corpus Christi. Having satisfied his retirememt requirements, Dick returned as Senior Pastor at South Shore Christian church in 2009 where he served until retiring in August 2013. Wherever he served ? in schools or the pulpit ? Pastor Dick changed lives. He brought out the very best in people, inspiring them to achieve new heights. He will be deeply missed by all the members and friends at South Shore, his former students and his fellow clergy. He is survived by his mother, Margaret Peltz of Corpus Christi; cousins: Jane Clark (Ronald), of Millsboro, Delaware; Joy Reed (Michael) of Wilton,California; Dawn Lamprecht of Collingsville, Illinois; and Marion ("Doc") Springer (Janice) of Dover, Florida and caregivers: Andy Allen and Patty Moya.
