Bio: Esther McAlister, 89, went to be with her Lord and savior on Thursday, Dec. 14, 2006, at the Life Care Center of Lewiston. She was born Aug. 6, 1917, at Lind, Wash., to Fred and Caroline Miller Rennick. She grew up in Lind and graduated from Lind High School in 1935.Esther will be remembered for her concern for others and her tender heart and strong Christian principles. Among her interests as a homemaker were her flowers and garden. It was not unusual for her to can several hundred quarts of produce each year. While cooking for a harvest crew near Kahlotus, Wash., Esther met Cleon (Mac) and they were married 63 years. He died on Aug. 1, 2002. They began their married life on a farm near Valley, Wash., and later moved to a farm near Kennewick. In 1946, they moved to a farm on Gold Hill near Kendrick. In 1967, they moved to Kahlotus where they retired in 1979. Esther was always very involved in the farm activities -- driving tractor, feeding animals and whatever else needed to be done. After retirement, Esther and Mac spent many years as "snowbirds" in Arizona and traveling throughout the United States and Canada. Due to poor health, they moved to Clarkston in 1997 to be near their son, Gary, and his wife Nancy.Esther and Mac were active members of the United Brethren Church at Gold Hill, The Church of the Nazarene at Connell, Wash., and Son Rise Baptist Church in Clarkston. She was a Sunday school teacher and active in the Women's Missionary Association. Esther was very supportive of missions, including the work of her son, Dale and his family with New Tribes Mission.Survivors include two sons, Gary and wife Nancy, and Dale and wife Barbara; daughter, Shirley and husband Alton; 12 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.Esther was a loving mom and grandmother to each of them. Also surviving her is a brother, Walter, and wife Marge. She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Emma Brocke; and an infant sister.Lewiston Tribune December 19, 2006
