- OBITUARY: Thomas J. Wise, 73
ZANESVILLE -- Thomas J. Wise, 73, of Zanesville, died at 5:05 p.m. Saturday, June 5, 2004, at Ohio District Council Nursing Home, after a lengthy illness. He was born Friday, June 13, 1930, in Duncan Falls, the son of Clement "Clem" D. Wise and Audry May Echrage Wise. He married Betty J. Nichols on July 10, 1981. He was Catholic by faith, employed as a laborer at Essex Wire on Linden Avenue and in the custodial and maintenance department at the Masonic Temple. He enjoyed fishing and camping. Surviving are his wife, Betty J. Nichols Wise, of the home; a son, James Anthony "Tony" Wise of Newark; five brothers and sisters, Paul Wise of Zanesville, Shirley (David) Joseph of Zanesville, Kay Latvala of California, George (Ann) Wise of Arizona and Beatrice "Bea" (Red) Dempsey of Texas; seven grandchildren; and two great-granddaughters; three stepsons, Ron (Bonnie) Higgins, Leonard (Janice) Higgins and Steve Higgins, all of Zanesville; four stepgrandchildren; several step great-grandchildren; a special friend, Barbara Higgins of Philo; and his pet dog and little friend, Chi Chi. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Alfred Wise, baby brother Charles "Charley Boy" and Lester Wise. Calling hours will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. Thursday, June 10, at the Hillis & Hardwick Funeral Home, 935 Forest Ave. with the family reciting the Rosary at 1:45 p.m. Funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. Thursday, June 10, 2004,with the Dominican Fathers officiating. Burial will be at Zanesville Memorial Park Cemetery.
