Hicks, 81, of Sloan, Iowa passed away Wednesday, November 20, 2013 at Pleasant View Care Center in Whiting, Iowa. Beverly Ann was born March 10, 1932 at the family home near Climbing Hill, the daughter of Frank and Flora (Clift) Arnold. She grew up on farms in Woodbury County, and graduated from Sloan High School in 1950. After graduation she worked for Mahoney Ford and a law firm in Sioux City, Iowa. Beverly and Gary Benton Hicks were united in marriage January 16, 1953 at Sloan, Iowa. The couple farmed near Albaton, Iowa since 1956 where they raised their three sons. She was primarily a stay at home mom. Beverly and her good friend Audrey Alfredson partnered together in a painting and decorating service for many years. She also worked for the Sloan Golf Course and the Sloan Bowling Alley. She was a member of Skien Lutheran Church and the Women's Fellowship. Beverly was a kindhearted, fun loving, and strong willed individual who valued spending time with her family, especially her children and grandchildren. She closely followed her three son's school activities and sports. Beverly was an avid Iowa State and New York Jets fan. She enjoyed bowling, golfing, playing cards, the outdoors, gardening, fishing, and the family's annual vacation trip to Okoboji. She is survived by her three sons and their wives, Dan and Deby of Urbandale, IA, Randy and Debra of Albaton, IA and Gary and Jennifer of Victoria, MN; five grandchildren, Justin, Zachariah, Cassandra, Benjamin and Madison; and numerous nieces and nephews, other relatives, and good friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gary; parents, Frank and Flora; two sisters, Nina Strong and Betty Glover; and four brothers, Orville, Ray, Eldon, and Norman. Memorials may be directed in Beverly's memory to Skien Lutheran Church, Albaton, Iowa or the Siouxland Humane Society, Sioux City, Iowa.
