Robert W. Weydert, 96, of Ennoble Manor, formerly of 1605 Bies Drive and Peosta, Iowa, died Friday, June 25, 2010, at Ennoble Manor.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 29, at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery, where military rites will be accorded by the American Legion Post 6 of Dubuque. Friends may call from 3 to 7 p.m. today at Egelhof, Siegert & Casper Westview Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 2659 Kennedy Road, where there will be a parish wake service at 3 p.m.
Robert was born on July 8, 1913, in Peosta, Iowa, son of William and Josephine (List) Weydert.
He married Mary C. Meyer on June 14, 1947; she preceded him in death on April 23, 1975. He later married Rita C. Duster; she preceded him in death on Jan. 8, 2008.
Robert was a World War II Army Air Force veteran and attained the rank of Staff Sgt., serving in the South Pacific. He was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign War Post 9663 and the American Legion Post 6 of Dubuque.
Robert graduated from St. John's Baptist High School in Peosta and worked in sales at Crescent Electric Supply Co. for 32 years, retiring in 1979.
He was a past president of Dubuque Electric League, a former member of Dubuque Lion's Club and a member of the Dubuque Business Men's Association.
Robert was a member of St. Joseph's the Worker Catholic Church, involved in several activity clubs and dance groups and was past member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 568. He enjoyed walking in the mall, dancing and traveling, including many bus trips.
Surviving are a daughter, Mary Anne (William) Stegemann, of Las Cruces, N.M.; a sister-in-law, Eloise Meyer, of Dubuque; brothers-in-law, John C. (Mary) Meyer, of Peoria, Ill., George (Judy) Meyer, of Dubuque; two stepdaughters, Darlene (James) Mullen, of Sun City, Ariz., and Rose Mary (Elmer) Arensdorf, of Dubuque; four stepsons, Ronald (Sue) Duster, of East Dubuque, Ill., Roger (Carol) Duster, Robert (Mary) Duster and Gary (Patti) Duster, all of Dubuque; 18 stepgrandchildren; 28 stepgreat-grandchildren; nephews, John D. Meyer and Chris Meyer; nieces, Cathy (Terry) Nauman and Carolyn (Jay) Gottschalk; great-nieces; and great-nephews.
He also was preceded in death by his parents; six brothers, the Rev. Donald D. Weydert, William, Frank, Elmer, Harold and Ralph; four sisters-in-law, Faustina Weydert, Dolores Weydert, Marie Weydert and Viola Weydert; and a sister, Helen Weydert.
