Services will be held Tuesday for Mary Martha Doerr, 76,
a community activist and medical social service worker. Doerr died of breast cancer Saturday at her Fox Point home.
Doerr graduated from Fontbonne College in St. Louis and the graduate school of St. Louis University, where she obtained a master's degree in medical social service in 1941. She then became chief of medical social work at a St. Louis hospital. Doerr was a trustee at Fontbonne, a board member of St.
Catherine's Residence for Women, the Women's Council of Marquette University and the National Catholic Committee on Scouting. She received the St. George Emblem from the National Catholic Committee on Scouting, as well as numerous other awards.
She was a founding member of St. Eugene Church in Fox Point and a member of St. Mary's Hospital Guild, the Women's Club of Wisconsin and Junior Achievement.
She is survived by her husband, Emmett John; daughters, Mary Ellen Churchill of Dallas and Elizabeth Frances Wells of San Francisco; sons, Emmett John Jr. of Tampa, Fla., Emil Charles Doerr of Chilton, Thomas Anthony Doerr of Fox Point and John Gerard Doerr of Nashville, Tenn.; and a sister.
Visitation will be Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. at Feerick Funeral Home, 2025 E. Capitol Dr., Shorewood. There will be a parish vigil at 7:30 p.m. in the funeral home. Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Eugene Church, 7600 N. Port Washington Rd.
