Birth: Apr. 26, 1868 Carmanova Transnistria Territory, Moldova Death: Dec. 29, 1936 Underwood McLean County North Dakota, USA Johann J LANDENBERGER born 26 April 1868 in Neudorf, Glueckstal, Odessa, South Russia was the son of Carl LANDENBERGER and Katharina Barbara HIEB. Johann LANDENBERGER at the age of 22 immigrated to America via the Port of Rotterdam, Holland aboard the SS "Maasdam" and arrived at the Port of New York, New York on the 9th of May 1890. "John" J LANDENBERGER married Augustina SAYLER on the 25th of November 1897 in Olivet, Bon Homme, South Dakota. This union was blessed with no less than 14 children. Bio by DG Bender ===================================== JOHANNES R SAYLER BOOK, Pg# 358c by Verine (Sayler) REIMANN: Johann grew up in the village of Kassel, South Russia. He was inducted into the Russian Army but went AWOL and came to the US with a family named Jacob & Salomea Sprenger. Johann came with them and assumed the name of Sprenger. Sailed on the SS "Maasdam" on Apr 20, 1890 and arrived in New York on May 9 1890. He came to Yankton, SD where an uncle lived. After Johann and Augustina were married they lived on a farm near Olivet, SD for 5 years. Johann along with several other relatives settled in the area of the Weller and Longfellow districts in McLean County, ND. They arrived in April of 1903. Three quarter sections of land were purchased 7 miles SW of Underwood, ND. On Jun 8 1908 Johann was sworn in as a US citizen.
