Edward August Nicolaus Jr. died January 21, 1996. He was a retired realtor who passed away at home surrounded by his loving family. He was 88 years of age. He was a fourth generation Sacramentan whose maternal and paternal grandparents were pioneers arriving in California in 1849. Mr. Nicolaus graduated from the University of California at Berkeley. He was a superior athlete who excelled at football, golf, and tennis. For the past 20 years he resided in San Francisco and Bolinas, CA. Mr. Nicolaus is survived by his wife of 56 years Dorothea Holden Nicolaus; three children, Edward A. Nicolaus III of San Francisco, Nancy Zacher of Piedmont and Patricia Raven of Kentfield; and sisters Mary Stephens and Betty Gray. Preceding him in death were his brother, Wendel K. Nicolaus and sister, Jeanne Caywood. He was the grandfather of Peter, Kathryn, Edward, and Nicolaus Zacher, and Theodore, Jennifer, and Charles Raven. Private interment was held in Sacramento at the family plot and a memorial celebration for family and friends was held in Bolinas, CA. Contributions in his memory may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
