MARVIN KETTERLING
Marvin Henry Ketterling, 61, LaMoure, ND was called to our heavenly home on Friday, December 11, 2009 at the Oakes Community Hospital.
Marvin was born August 9th, 1948 at LaMoure, North Dakota. He was raised on the family farm north of LaMoure. He attended grade school in LaMoure and graduated from LaMoure High School in 1967. While in high school, he was active in the local 4H and FFA club, where he won numerous purple ribbons at the Winter Show for his grains and showmanship of livestock.
After graduation, he worked for Albert Rott and Walt Haberman Jr. farming, and for Roy's U-Save Grocery in Litchville, North Dakota. He then went to work for Schefflers Construction and later for Northern Improvement. He remained with Northern Improvement on Road Construction for the next 15 years.
Marvin married Linda Good in October 1971. After road construction, he farmed with his father. He and Linda purchased a farm at LaMoure, where he continued to farm with his father.
Marvin and Linda (Good) were divorced in October 1991. Marvin married Linda Hochstetter from Aberdeen, South Dakota in September 1997.
Marvin’s hobbies included hunting, fishing, gardening and nature. He also had a passion for cooking and canning and even mastered the art of making jelly this year.
Marvin is survived by his wife Linda; three sons, Dean (Tara) Ketterling, Albert Lea, MN, David Ketterling, Owatonna, MN, and Doni Ketterling, Albert Lea, MN; one daughter, Sherry (Rob) Samudio, Freeborn, MN; one step-daughter, Angelena (Anthony) Kocher, Frederick, SD; his father, Henry Ketterling, Litchville, ND; two sisters, Darlene (Robert) Barr, Lisbon, ND and Henrietta (Roy) Erickson, Litchville, ND; and five grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his mother Fern Ketterling, brother Norman Ketterling, and stepson Robert Flocchini.
Marvin will be missed deeply by all family and friends.
Funeral: Tuesday, December 15, 2009 at 10:30 a.m. at Zoar Lutheran Church, LaMoure, ND.
Visitation: Monday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Zoar Lutheran Church Prayer Service starting at 7:00 p.m. at the church.
Burial: Rosehill Cemetery near LaMoure
