Funeral Mass for Dr. Ralph J. Dukart of Dickinson will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, December 15, 2007 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Dickinson with the Rev. Stephen Kranz celebrating. Concelebrating is Fr. Claude Seeberger, Fr. George Dukart, Fr. Dennis Schafer, Fr. Casmir Paluch and Deacon Herman Dukart. Military Rites will be by the Dickinson Veterans Drill Team. Burial will follow at St. Patrick's Catholic Cemetery in Dickinson.
Visitation will be Thursday, December 13, 2007 from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Stevenson Funeral Home. Visitation will continue on Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., December 14, 2007 at Stevenson Funeral Home, continuing at St. Patrick's Catholic Church from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. with Rosary and Vigil service at 7:00 p.m. at the church.
Dr. Ralph Dukart, 91, passed away at his home in Dickinson on Saturday, December 8, 2007.
Dr. Ralph John Dukart was born on December 24, 1915 on the family farm in the Lehigh area southeast of Dickinson the son of Xaver and Isabella (Steiner) Dukart. He grew up and attended country school, St. Joseph's Grade School, Model High and graduated from Dickinson High. Ralph attended Dickinson State Teachers College for two years, then transfered to UND for Pre Medical School. He was accepted to Wayne University, College of Medicine in Detroit where he graduated with a Doctor in Medicine. Dr. Ralph served his internship at St. Mary's Hospital in Detroit, MI. where he met the love of his life, Jennie Josephine Phillips. Dr. Ralph was married to Jennie on September 28, 1943 in Detroit. After the war broke out, Dr. Ralph was inducted into the US Army. He completed his Army Medical Training in New York City, NY. Dr. Ralph achieved the rank of Captain and served in Japan as a public health officer. He was honorably discharged in 1946. Dr. Ralph and Jennie moved to Richardton, ND where he started his medical practice with his uncle Dr. Christ Dukart. In 1947 he moved to Dickinson where he joined the Dickinson Clinic and practiced medicine in ObstetricsGynecology and Family Practice for 37 years. In 1984 Dr. Ralph retired and continued to make Dickinson his home.
He enjoyed fishing with his family and close friends especially his cousin Stanley Schmaltz and his priestly friends. His devotion and love for his family was always very important to him. Dr. Ralph's faith is what gave meaning to his life. Dr. Ralph's passion and commitment to being a doctor was a lifelong love for his profession and this showed with the care and love he gave to each and every patient.
Dr. Ralph served as Public Health Officer for the Southwest District Health Unit for 15 years, In 1963 he served as President of the OBGYN Society in North Dakota. He was Chief of Staff at St. Joseph's Hospital in Dickinson at various times throughout his career, hospital board member, and St. Benedict's Medical Director. He received ND State Medical Association Commendation Award in 1983 for forty years of service and then in 1993 for fifty years of service. He received the Pioneer Award from the Hilltop Heritage Foundation in 2005, was a lifetime member of the American Medical Association, a member of the North Dakota Medical Association, a 4th Degree Knights of Columbus Member, lifetime Elks member and raised in the St. Joseph's Parish and a lifelong member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church.
Survivors include: 11 daughters, Rosemary (Bill) Dykema, Ridgecrest, CA, Grace (Bob) Baker, Monument, CO, Jeannette (Allen) Berger, Dickinson, ND, Cheryl Dukart, Mandan, ND, Stephanie Emmil, Bismarck, ND, Bernadine (Tim) Olson, Edmond, OK, Theresa (Rev. Kenneth) Schock, Corsica, SD, Marian (Gerry) Meier, Glide, OR, Frances (Dick) Milner, Fargo, ND, Carmelita (Tim) Kuntz, Aumsville, OR and Christine (Mitch) Valnes, Bismarck, ND; three sons, Raymond (Carol) Dukart, Albuquerque, NM, Tom (Angela Ruggeri) Dukart, Kirkland, WA and Robert (Yvonne) Dukart, Boise, ID; 41 grandchildren and 39 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Xaver and Isabella Dukart, his wife, Jennie, a son, Charles; two brothers and their wives, John X. and Catherine Dukart and Joe M. and Mary Dukart; a sister and her husband, Eva and Ludwig Kubischta.
A memorial has been established in memory of Dr. Ralph at Benedict Court for a new outdoor bird sanctuary and can be mailed to 830 2nd Ave. East, Dickinson, ND 58601 or to a charity of your choice.
