Birth: May 4, 1929 Chicago Cook County Illinois, USA Death: Oct. 5, 2007 California, USA Jerome Nist, known to his friends and family as Jerry, was born in Chicago, Illinois on May 4, 1929. As a young man, Jerry served in the Korean conflict as an Army Staff-Sergeant. After his military service, Jerry gained employment as a printer for various newspaper agencies, including his first job at the Logansport Indiana Pharos- Tribune . He next moved on to work for the Anderson Indiana Herald and then for thirty years, was a printer for the Pomona Progress-Bulletin in Pomona, California. Jerry served as President of the Pomona Local 994 and Long Beach Coast-Valley's Local 650 of the Communications workers of American/ITU Union. During some of this time, Jerry also coached Little League in the Pomona Ted Greene League. Jerry also became an avid golfer and enjoyed playing in the Progress-Bulletin Twilight League and was a member of the Upland Hills Country Club and the Brawley Del Rio Country Club. Jerry was a member of the Saint Anthony Catholic Church in Upland and a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Brawley. Jerry also enjoyed being a member of the Ontario Elks Lodge, #1419. Our friend Jerry is survived by his wife, Fredda; his sister, Joan Sbarra of Bath, PA; his daughter, Joni Sullivan of Coeur d'Alene, ID and his son. Jon Nist of Claremont, CA. Jerry was preceded in death by his sons, Joseph Nist in 1988 and Jeff Ni st in 2003. Arrangements are being handled by Frye Chapel and Mortuary in Brawley.
