Christian Hopfauf
Christian "Chris" Hopfauf, 86, Bismarck, died Sept. 16, 2008, in a Bismarck hospital. Funeral Mass will be held at 11:30 a.m. Monday, Sept. 22, at Church of Corpus Christi, Bismarck, with the Rev. Paul D. Becker officiating. Burial is scheduled for 1 p.m. in the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan. Reception will follow at Church of Corpus Christi.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Bismarck Funeral Home with a rosary, led by the Knights of Columbus, beginning at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church.
Chris was born April 10, 1922, in Fallon, N.D., to Philip and Barbara (Winchell) Hopfauf. He grew-up on the family farm near Fallon. He served in the U.S. Army and U.S. Air Force from 1945 to 1946. He was a builder and contractor for 40 years.
On Jan. 22, 1947, he married Betty Schaff. Betty is currently residing at the Terrace in Bismarck.
He was a member of the Church of Corpus Christi and Knights of Columbus with a Fourth Degree. He took pride doing volunteer work at the Heritage Center and the State Capital. He enjoyed his books on tape, playing cards, tinkering in the shop, playing pool, fishing and had a love for his horses. Talking and visiting with friends, family and everyone at the senior center was one of his favorite pastimes. Dad was always ready to lend a friendly ear to anyone who would listen.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Betty, Bismarck; two sons, Tim (Marie) Hopfauf and Greg (Ann) Hopfauf, and one daughter, Lorri (Stuart) Kostenko, all of Washington; one son-in-law, Craig Scott, Bismarck; his grandchildren, Nathan (Tasha) Scott, Tara (Derrick) Orr, Libby, Emily and Ginny Hopfauf and Lucas, Evan and Austin Kostenko; his great-grandchildren, Jaden, Carter and Riley Scott and Morgan Solberg; one sister, Francis Schock; and he had many nieces and nephews who he was very close to.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Philip and Barbara (Winchell) Hopfauf; one daughter, Karen Scott; four brothers; and four sisters.
