Birth: Mar. 29, 1919 Death: Jan. 29, 2006 ROSE CREEK -- Aloysius B. "Louie" Schmit, age 86, of Rose Creek, died Sunday, Jan. 29, 2006, at the Adams Healthcare Center. Louie was born March 29, 1919, in Rose Creek, to Mathias and Mary (Shumacker) Schmit. In 1945, he was united in marriage to Irene Struck. Together they raised a son and a daughter, David and Linda. On June 16, 1978, Louie was united in marriage to Maureen (Baker) Stroup at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Rose Creek. He inherited a crew of Stroup step children. Louie loved to work and took pride in his careers of corn shelling, farming, and being co-owner of the Rose Creek Conoco Oil Company. He enjoyed gardening and yard work and also tended bar and drove school bus. His soft-spoken manner and love of food became trademarks of this patient and strong man. Survivors include his wife, Maureen Schmit, of Rose Creek, Minn.; son, David L. and Kathy Schmit, of Traer, Iowa; daughter, Linda (Schmit) Bradley, of Traer, Iowa; step children: Gary and Marcia Stroup, of Rose Creek, Minn.; Beverly and Mike Legler, of Eagle River, Alaska; Ronald and LuAnn Stroup, of Rose Creek, Minn.; Richard and Kerry Stroup, of Rose Creek, Minn.; Rebecca and Paul Seidenkranz, of Cannon Falls, Minn.; Robert and Christy Stroup, of Snohomish, Wash.; 15 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Louise Schmit, of Rose Creek, Minn. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mathias and Mary Schmit; brothers: Pete, John and Lawrence Schmit; and sister, Mary Klapperich. A funeral mass was celebrated at 11 a.m. today at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Rose Creek. There was a 6 p.m. wake service on Tuesday at Mayer Funeral Home where friends called from 4-7 p.m. and also one hour before the service at the church today. Interment will be in St. Peter's Cemetery. The casket bearers are David B. Schmit, Ryan Stroup, Mark Schmit, Geoff Stroup, Jon Stroup and Richard Schmit. Family links: Spouse: Irene M.
