Hello again, Ursula,
I just got in from my granddaughter’s soccer game. She is 5 and it is
hilarious to watch them on the soccer pitch. They are there to have fun.
If only they could stay this age!
Here is what I believe I know of the Schuetz family tree:
Hans Schutz of Baligen,Bern (Bolligen) Switzerland born in mid 1600s. He
is father of Hann’s Schutz who marries Maria Barbare Schmidt in
Duntzenheim, Bas - Rhin, Alsace in 1673 Their son Hans Henrich Schuetz
marries Anna Gertrude Beltzel. Hans is born in Kolksheim then moves to
Langensoultzbach. He is a blacksmith. He and Anna have 11 children. I know
of two- Johann Friederich Schuetz and Ludwig. Johann Friedrich Schuetz
born 1720 langensulzbach, Elsass, Germany marries Maria Catarina Helfner
(born 12/22/1712) on 2/8/1746. I have Maria’s death as 2/13/1785 and
Johann’s death as 4/15/1777 in Vorderweidenthal, Pfalz, Germany Johann and
Maria have 5 chldren: Johann Friedrich, George Peter, Johann Wendel,
Johann Henrich, and Johann David. Johann Wendel Schuetz born August 9th,
1751 in Vorderweidenthal, Pfalz, Germany marries Eva Charlotta
Brandstaetter Feb 5, 1782 in Thaleischweiler, Froshen, Germany. Johann
Wendel Schuetz and Eva Charlotta Brandstaetter have 12 children. Their
child John Peter Schutz is a blacksmith. John Peter Schutz has a son Peter
Schutz. Peter Schutz marries Louise Burkhard. Peter is born 3/1/1825. He
dies 5/26/1904 and is buried in White Church Cemetery Washington County,
Illinois, USA. Peter is a blacksmith who moves to Le Harve France and
immigrates to the USA arriving in New York on the ship Tampico in 1867.
Peter and Louise’s children are: Louisa,Jacob,Peter,Christian,Conrad, and
Daniel. It has been said that they left Germany as they were afraid of the
Kaiser wanting to build troops and that their sons could be conscripted.
At least that is the family scuttlebutt regarding the immigration. Their
son Jacob Schuetz marries Louise Barkau. They had four children
Jacob,August,Henry, and Amanda. Jacob and Louise’s son Jacob Schuetz
marries Mary Ruehl . Mary Ruehl is the daughter of John Ruehl and Anna
Karr who also originated from Germany. Jacob and Mary had 9 children:
Alfred,Esther,Olga,Jacob,Alma,Amanda,Gilbert,Paulie, and Rose. Gilbert is
my grandfather. His daughter, Mary, is my mother. My grandfather married
Thekla Blanken.
Thekla is also the decedents go German immigrants.
I am not sure if her ancestors come into play with your project but I will
share what I know. It seems as though they may be from a different region
in Germany.
Herman Tanz born March 2,1848 was confirmed Palm Sunday 1861 in Frohna.
Herman married Margaretha. Family records seem to indicate that
Margaretha’s maiden name was Blanken, but I’m not sure of that. Herman and
Margaretha Tanz have 11 children. Their daughter Clara Matilda
“Tillie"Tanz married Theodore Blanken. Clara and Theodore’s daughter,
Thekla, is my grandmother who married Gilbert Schuetz. Because the Blanken
name seems to come in to play more than once for maternal lines, I’m not
sure I have it correct.
I think the Blanken line for “Tillie” Tanz who marries Theodore Frederich
Blanken is as follows:
Theodore Frederick Blanken is the son of Johann Herman Blancken (Blanck)
(born Nov 11,1848 Lamstedt,Ldkr,Cuxhaven,NDs,Germany died Dec 28, Perry
County Missouri USA) and Emilie Pfau born about 1848. The surname during
this time seems to switch from Blancken to Blanck. Johann Herman Blanck is
the son of Hermann Blanck born Aug 8, 1807 Mitlesmoor,LD kr,
Osterholz,Nds, Germany and Anna Margaretha Gronwoldt Hermann Blank is the
son of Herman Blanck (1776-1848) and Adelheid Luhrmann (1772-1860) Herman
Blank is the son of Johann Blank born 1741 Kurzes Moor, Nds, Ger died Nov
29,1818 Rautendorf,Ldkr,Osterholz,Nds,Germany and Catherine Wiebcken born
1745 Altenbustedt,Ldkr,Rotenburg, Nds,Germany and died Nov 30,1785
Rautendorf,Ldkr,Osterholz,Nds,Germany
I would love to find out more about my Blanck and Tanz ancestors. The
Schuetz family line is pretty interesting. My grandfather and all his
brother and sisters were bi-lingual-spoke,read,wrote English and German.
My mother did also until she was 8. When she was 8, it was 1940 and WW II
was a factor. My grandfather was afraid of being seen as "Un American"
during the war and forbid my mother and Uncle Gil ( the two oldest
children) to utilize the German language. Such a shame. To the day my
grandfather died in 1970, he read, wrote, and spoke German as well as
English. It is a skill that his children and grandchildren do not have.
Thank you for including me in the project. It is also good to know that I
have a cousin to converse with.
Kindest regards,
April
