Joseph Martin Suess, 73, of Peppercorn Lane, East Granby died Tuesday, (April 12, 2005), at St. Francis Hospital, Hartford. Born on May 3, 1931 in Bristol, PA son of the late Joseph O. and Emma (Schaub) Suess and beloved husband of Mary (Whalen) Suess whom he married on August 4, 1962 in Derby. He retired from the J.M. Ney Co., Bloomfield after over 40 years of service. He loved camping at Lake George, NY, UCONN basketball, the New York Giants, his flower gardens and growing vegetables every summer and he was also an avid photographer. Besides his wife, Mary, he is survived by his two brothers, Carl J. Suess and his wife, Rose Emma and John O. Suess and his wife, Nancy both of Conway, SC; two brothers-in-law, John and Kevin Whalen, both of Ansonia; his nieces and nephews, John Suess (Tracy) and their children, Christopher and Christina, Brian Suess (Gail) and their children, Jennifer and Amber, David Suess (Tina) and their child, Craig, Kathy Snyder (Gary) and their children Eddie and Daryll, Jackie Banta (John) and their children, Matt, Robert and Thomas, Heidi Belcourt (Michael) and their children, Robert and Daniel, Barbara Suess and her fiance, Gerry Hodgekiss and her child, Rebecca. He was a very special "Pop" to Becky Suess, he will be dearly missed. He will also be missed by his special friend Thomas Jardine and his wife, Barbara. Many friends and relatives in Bavaria, Germany; his dog, Porter and Porters cousin, Abbi. Joseph was predeceased by his twin sister, Mary Derbacher in November of 2004. Special thanks to all from St. Francis Hospital that cared for him, and to all the caregivers in the south wing of Alexandria Manor, Bloomfield who were so caring and kind to Joseph while he was a resident there. Family and friends may gather Friday, April 15, at 9 a.m. at Carmon Windsor Funeral Home, 807 Bloomfield Ave., Windsor followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church, 26 Wintonbury Ave., Bloomfield. Burial will be in Mount St. Benedict Cemetery, Bloomfield. His family will receive friends Thursday from 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. at the Carmon Windsor Funeral Home. Directions to the funeral home are Int. 91, Exit 37 (Bloomfield Ave.) (Rt. 305) follow Bloomfield Ave. west one mile, the funeral home will be on your left. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, Memorial Dept., P.O. Box 1004, Meriden, CT 06450-1004 or to the CT Humane Society, 701 Russell Road, Newington, CT 06111.
