- [S927] Obituary.
Steven Robert Bayer, 52, of Washington, W.Va., died suddenly May 13, 2008, at his residence.
Steve was born Oct. 3, 1955, in Parkersburg, the elder son of Charles Robert Bayer and the late Mary Sinnett Bayer. He was a graduate of Parkersburg South High School in 1973 and West Virginia University in 1977 with a B.A. in political science. He was employed by the Mid Ohio Valley Health Department with 28 years of service. He was director of Environmental Health and Threat Preparedness programs and was the public information officer. He was 2008 president of the W.Va. Public Health Association, served as president of W.Va. Association of Sanitarians 2006 and 2007 and was Chairman of the W.Va. Board of Registration for Sanitarians. He was the pianist for the local Southern Gospel Group "Redeemed" and attended Bethel Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife of 24 years, Teresa Cunningham Bayer; two sons, David Steven Bayer, a sophomore at WVU-P, and Kevin Michael Bayer, a sophomore at PSHS; his brother, Michael Bayer and his wife, Pamela, of Washington; his mother-in-law, Naomi Evans of Washington; and his brother-in-law, Mark Cunningham and his wife, Loreen, of Philippi.
In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents; and an infant sister, Susan Robin Bayer.
Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at the Leavitt Funeral Home, 403 Seventh Street, Parkersburg, with the Rev. Randy Kochersperger and the Rev. Don Yeager officiating. Interment will follow at the Sunset Memory Gardens. Visitation will be from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. today and until service time Friday at the funeral home.
