Bernice Rose Guthmiller, 77, Jamestown, North Dakota died Sunday, March 1, 2009 at Hi-Acres Manor Nursing Center in Jamestown, North Dakota.
Bernice Rose Hins was born November 24, 1931 in Medina, ND, the daughter of Gottlieb and Emma (Kleingartner) Hins. She grew up in Medina and graduated from Medina High School. She was a clerk at JC Penney and at the Tempo store in Jamestown. On June 12, 1955, Bernice married Leslie L. Guthmiller in Medina. She was a waitress at the Parkway Café and cook in the Jamestown Public School system and for 20 years at Jamestown Hospital, from where she retired in 1994.
After Bernice's retirement, she worked as a volunteer at R.S.V.P. and Hi-Acres Manor Nursing Center. She was also a substitute cook for Jamestown Public Schools.
Bernice was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Jamestown, where she was active in a circle, many Bible studies and taught Sunday School for many years.
Bernice is survived by her husband, Leslie L. Guthmiller; son and daughter-in-law, Stephen L. and Dawn Guthmiller; two daughters, Deborah Kay Guthmiller and Charlotte Bernice Guthmiller; all of Jamestown; two grandsons, Jason Guthmiller, Grand Forks, ND and Matthew Guthmiller, Jamestown; two sisters, Darlene (Gerhardt) Ellingson, Grace City, ND and Clara (Ralph) Fiechtner, Monango, ND; and two step-sisters, Leona (Rueben) Klundt, Gackle, ND and Alice (Leroy) Buck, Streeter, ND.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Ardella Hins, Wanda Topp, Leona Walcker; stepmother, Christina Miller Hins and stepbrother, Norman Miller.
Funeral Service: 10:30 AM, Friday, March 6, 2009 at St. John's Lutheran Church, Jamestown with Pastor Ruth Kaden officiating.
Visitation: 1:00 to 7:00 PM, Thursday, March 5, 2009 at the Eddy Funeral Home in Jamestown.
Prayer Service: 7:00 PM, Thursday, March 5, 2009 at the Eddy Funeral Chapel.
Burial in the spring: Medina Cemetery, Medina, North Dakota
In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to the Alzheimer's Association.

Bernice Rose Hins was born Nov. 24, 1931, in Medina, N.D., the daughter of Gottlieb and Emma (Kleingartner) Hins. She grew up and attended school in Medina, graduating from Medina High School. She was employed by JC Penney and Tempo in Jamestown.
She married Leslie L. Guthmiller on June 12, 1955, in Medina. She was a waitress at the Parkway Café and a cook in the Jamestown Public School system, and for 20 years at Jamestown Hospital, where she retired from in 1994. She then worked as a volunteer at R.S.V.P. and Hi-Acres Manor Nursing Center. She was also a substitute cook for Jamestown Public Schools.
She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Jamestown, where she was active in circle and Bible studies and taught Sunday school for many years.
