Whitman, Ruth Ann Benz
Ruth Ann Benz Whitman Ruth Ann Benz Whitman, 80, died Wednesday at St. Mary's Home East. She was born in Erie on May 10, 1927, daughter of the late Karl and Bertha Heck Benz. Ruth graduated from Academy High School, enjoyed volunteer work, reading, and gardening, and most importantly raised her family with love. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Mildred Benz and Dorothy Smith; and a brother, Charles Benz. She is survived by her husband, Edwin Whitman; seven children, Carol Schloss and her husband, Peter, of British Colombia, Canada, Janet Walters of Lawrence Park, Linda Jivoff and her husband, Thomas, of Canastota, N.Y., Susan Forrest and her husband, Kim, of Corry, Alice Carlson and her husband, Martin, of Mechanicsburg, Pa., Greta Laughlin and her husband, James, of Liverpool, N.Y., and Christian Whitman and his wife, Debra, of Erie. She is also survived by 14 grandchildren, Russell Schloss, Leah Walters, Paul-Thomas Jivoff, Bryan and Karen Forrest, Elizabeth and Lily Carlson, Jordan and Elijah Laughlin, Lamont Gray-Whitman, Robert, Megan, Katelyn and Zachary Whitman; two sisters, Virginia Wiggins of Bartow, Fla., and Mary Nemenz of Erie; and a brother, Richard Benz, of Manchester, N.H. A number of nieces and nephews also survive. Friends may call at the Francis V. Kloecker Funeral Home, Inc., 2502 Sassafras St. on Sunday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., and on Monday at St. Mary's Home East, 607 E. 26th St., from 10 a.m. until the time of the Funeral Mass at 11 a.m. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery.
