(Bud) Kraus, age 91, of Columbia, Mo., formerly of Pilot Grove, died Tuesday, September 23, 2008, at Boone Hospital Center in Columbia, Mo. He was born September 4, 1917, to William F. and Rose T. Twenter Kraus, in Clear Creek, Mo. He was married to Mildred M. Lang, in Martinsville, Mo., on January 19, 1942, who preceded him in death on August 24, 2001. He was an Army Veteran in World War II, and was the first World War II veteran to receive a farm loan in Missouri from Farm Security Administration. He worked at the University of Missouri as a grounds foreman on the college campus, retiring in 1978. He was a member of the Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Columbia, Mo., American Legion Post #266, Clear Creek Knights of Columbus, Boonville Knights of Columbus, and former member of the Pilot Grove Lions Club. He is survived by four daughters, Bernice VanLoo and husband Frederick of Jefferson City, Mo., Patricia Renner and husband Jim of Columbia, Mo., Barbara Wood and late husband Kevin of Columbia, Mo., Marilyn Nivert and husband Nick of Glasgow, Mo.; one son, Donald Kraus of Palm Springs, Calif.; 12 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Julia Horton of Pilot Grove and Pauline Richerson of Boonville, Mo. He was preceded in death by his wife, two brothers, and three sisters. Services for Mr. Kraus will be at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, September 27, 2008, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Pilot Grove with Father Tom Seifner officiating. Burial in the St. Joseph Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3- 5- p.m. Friday at the Meisenheimer Funeral Home in Pilot Grove. A prayer service will be at 6 p.m. at the church with visitation to follow.
