Joe Billman, 85, passed away Nov. 8, 2005.
He was born Oct. 26, 1920, in Scheffield, N.D., the son of Jacob and Marian (Bast) Billman. He attended school in Schef-field and joined the CCC's at age 15. He married Veronica Binstock in Dickinson, N.D., in 1943. He farmed, worked as a bricklayer, and in 1947, he hired out to the Northern Pacific Railroad. He retired in 1980 with the Burlington Northern Railroad and Amtrak as an engineer.
Nothing made Joe happier than to be with his family. Joe was a friend to everyone and the life of the party.
He enjoyed horses, traveling, card playing, dancing, bowling and camping with his family. He was a member of the Holy Rosary Parish, Moose Lodge and Good Sam's Galavanters.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Anton, Leo and Jacob; three sisters, Magdalen Smith, Rose Konechne and Katherine Billman; his son William; and grandson Charlie Billman. Joe is survived by his wife, Veronica; his brother, Frank (Mary), Centralia, Wash.; sisters Beatrice Kuntz, Dickinson, and Mary Kostelecky, Sioux Falls, S.D.; three sons Ken (Diane), Billings, Bernard (Barbara), Billings, Jack (Randi), Glasgow, and two daughters, Judy (Jerry) Brittain, Auburn, Wash., and Shirley (Doug) Bales, Billings; also nine grandchildren, Tina Billman, Tana Billman, Joey Lehman, Janette Siler, Janelle McCray, Chad Bales, Laura Bales, Jacob Billman and Dillon Billman; and seven great-grandchildren, Kayla Layman, Jarrett and Jillian Siler, Samuel and Adam McCray and Colter and Madison Bales.
Visitation will begin Thursday afternoon, Nov. 10, at Michelotti-Sawyers Mortuary. Vigil services will be 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 11, at Holy Rosary Church. The Funeral Mass will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 12, at Holy Rosary, with the Rite of Committal at Holy Cross Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Holy Rosary Church or the charity of one's choice.
