Mamie Kelling, 99, Killdeer, died Sunday, May 26, 2013 at the Hill Top Home of Comfort, Killdeer. Mamie's service will be at 10 a.m., Wednesday, June 19, 2013 at St. John's Lutheran Church, Killdeer, with Rev. John Simonson officiating. Inurnment will follow at the Oakdale Cemetery, Killdeer. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church on Wednesday.
Mamie Fischer was born May 18, 1914 on her father's homestead in a sod house at the foot of the Killdeer Mountains. She was the first daughter of Anton and Marie (Johnson) Fischer.
She attended grade school at Oakdale School #1 and graduated from Killdeer High School in 1932. Mamie later attended Dickinson State Teachers College and earned a teaching degree. She taught school in the Killdeer area for three years before her marriage to Lloyd William Random on April 11, 1936. Four sons were born to them, Wendell, Delwin, Ronald, and Wayne.
Mamie and Lloyd operated the Oakdale Post Office for 17 years and the Oakdale Dairy for 16 years. Her husband Lloyd died on August 20, 1958.
She married Oliver Kelling on March 20, 1963, and together they lived on the Oliver Kelling farm until November 1993, at which time they moved into Killdeer. Oliver died on April 10, 1996 at the Hill Top Home of Comfort.
Mamie belonged to the St. John's Lutheran Church of Killdeer, and the American Legion Auxiliary. She liked to cook, bake, sew, crochet, work in the garden, and put together puzzles.
Mamie is survived by her sons, Wendell (Sandra) Random, Delwin (Dorothy) Random, and Wayne (Inge) Random; daughter-in-law, Darlene Random; 10 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Dorothy Fischer; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Lloyd and Oliver; five brothers; one sister; and her son Ronald.

Description: Hello -
I saw an entry on the Black Sea German Research webpage for Anton Fischer, who was born in Sulz, Ukraine and then emigrated to Dunn County, North Dakota and married a Swedish woman, Marie Johnson. This was my great-grandfather. My grandfather, Raymond Fischer, was born in Oakdale, North Dakota in 1913, and my father, Roger Fischer, was born in Killdeer in 1948. The family was Catholic, but converted to Lutheranism at some point (either my grandfather or great-grand-father).
Complicating the issue is that there seems to have been another Anton Fischer in Dunn County at about the same time, but the Anton who was my great-grandfather is the one who died about 1949 and was married to Marie Johnson. He had several brothers, as well.
I believe that Anotn's father was a Siegfried (spelling may vary) Fischer, who died in Dickinson in 1916. Going back, it seems the earliest Fischer that I was able to find was a Kaspar Fischer (spelling may vary) in the Bas-Rhin area of Alsace.
I saw some of this information earlier this year on this site, but it seems to have been removed. Our family Bible does state that Anton was married to MArie Johnson - I hope this helps. Any further informaiton and follow-up would be appreciated.
