Loretta Mae Mann, age 95, died Friday, January 27, 2017 at Willow Brook Christian Village. She was born August 29, 1921 in Woodsfield, Ohio to the late William and Garnet (Swartzlander) Ludwig. She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years Kenneth, sister Doris Jeffers, brothers Irvin and Bill Ludwig. Loretta is survived by her son, Neal (Susie) Mann of Alliance, OH; daughter, Susan (Barry) Orahood of Delaware, OH; four grandsons, Perry (Kim), Caleb, Eli (Callie), and Taylor; four great-grandchildren; sister, Martha Jane Ludwig; sister-in-law, Ida Belle Ludwig; and nieces and nephews. Loretta was a 1940 graduate of Woodsfield High School. She worked for the Rationing Board and at the movie theater in Woodsfield before moving to Columbus, where she worked for the IRS. Loretta developed her love for playing ball at a young age when she was the only girl on her father's baseball team. She played fast pitch softball in Columbus for several years where she played third base/"hot corner" for the Shepherd Athletic Club. Loretta coached an undefeated slow pitch girls softball team called the "Red Devils" in Reynoldsburg and won the championship in 1962. She played for the Reynoldsburg Women's All-Star Team until she was 51 years old. Loretta worked as a cook at the Reynoldsburg Middle School and retired in 1981. She was a member of the Reynoldsburg United Methodist Church, and a member of the V.F.W. Ladies Auxillary Post 5303 for 68 years. Loretta loved being outdoors, bike riding, gardening, and spending time with her family and friends. She was an avid sports fan and especially enjoyed football. Loretta loved the OSU Buckeyes, and was known to keep a buckeye or two in her pocket. She moved to Willow Brook Christian Village in 2012 and made many treasured friends with residents and staff. Memorial contributions may be made to the "Garden Fund" at Willow Brook Christian Village, 100 Willow Brook Way South, Delaware, OH 43015 or to Heartland Hospice, 685 Delaware Avenue, Suite 300, Marion, OH 43302. Her family will receive friends, 4-6:30 p.m. Tuesday, January 31, 2017 followed by a memorial service at 6:30 p.m. at the COTNER FUNERAL HOME, 7369 East Main Street, Reynoldsburg, OH 43068. Burial will be at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, February 1, 2017 at Oaklawn Cemetery in Woodsfield, OH. Messages may be sent to her family by visiting www.cotnerfuneralhome.com.
