Private family services will be held followed by the burial in Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis. He was born July 20, 1926, the son of Jacab and Kathrine (Wanner) Pleinis. He was raised and attended schools in Eureka. He served in the Navy during WWII and after the war farmed at Eureka. He moved to Lead in the late 1940s where he worked at the Homestake Gold Mine for 31 years. His first wife died in 1971. He moved to McMinnville in 1980 and married Jackie Schumacher on Oct. 10,1981. She died in 2007. He loved to garden and build yard ornament and birdhouses. Survivors include three sons James Pleinis, Big Timber, Mont., Donald Pleinis of Aurora, Colo. and Charles Pleinis of Puyallup Wash.; three stepsons, Dennis Schumacher of Lead, Donald Schumacher of Golden, Colo. and David Schumacher of Deadwood; daughters Lee Phinney of Vero Beach, Fla., Jean Odom and Rhonda Morgan Cash both of Clairmount, Calif., and Pamela Englund of Belle Fourche; stepdaughters Pamela Jones of Sheridan, Ore., and Patricia Hatfield of Dayton. Ore; brother Jules Pleinis of Aberdeen; sisters- Ella Cramlich of Eureka, Martha Westburg of Chattanooga, Tenn., and Donna Weller of California. 26 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
