Jacob married Katherina BENDER in 1907 most likely at Kassel, Glueckstal, Odessa, South Russia.Jacob and Katherina HELM along with their 1 year old daughter Paulina, immigrated to America via the Port of Rotterdam, Holland on the 28th of July 1910 aboard the SS "Volturno" and arrived at Ellis Island, New York on the 11th of August 1910.The ship's manifest revealed the family's final destination as New York, NY to meet up with A. U. Wuchulinski, a friend that resided at 1155 Orchard Street, New York, NY. It also revealed that the family apparently had 202 dollars in their pockets on arrival in America.The Helm family lived in Wausau, Wisconsin for 1½ years and then decided to try their hand at farming at Ashley, McIntosh County, North Dakota for 3 years. In 1914 the Helm family immigrated to Alberta, Canada and settled in the vicinity of Carbon, Kneehill County, Alberta until the spring of 1921, which took them to a farm located 1 mile west of Hilda, Alberta.At 38 years of age Katherina Helm died on the 25th of February 1923. In 1929 Jacob Helm remarried but also died at a relatively young age of 51 years from Bright's disease. He was interred on the 18 January 1931, by Reverend G.
