August Pleines, Sr Birth: Aug. 1, 1880 Carmanova Transnistria Territory, Moldova Death: Dec. 8, 1931 Lodi San Joaquin County California, USA August PLEINES born 1 August 1880 in Neudorf, Glueckstal, Odessa, South Russia, was the son of Joseph PLEINES (d. before 16 May 1911 in South Russia) and Magdalena KIRSCHMAN (d. after 16 May 1911 most likely in North Dakota). August married Karolina BENDER in February 1903 in Kassel, Glueckstal, Odessa, South Russia. After leaving the port of Bremen, Germany on the 28th of September 1905, the August PLEINES family arrived at Ellis Island, New York aboard the SS "MAIN" on the 5th of October 1905. Their final USA destination was recorded as Ashley, North Dakota to meet up with an uncle. The family settled ten miles west of Forbes, North Dakota in Albertha Township, Dickey County, North Dakota. While living near Forbes, the couple had 9 more children. In the fall of 1930, August and Karolina and four of their children moved to Lodi, California. Their trip was made with a Model T Ford and it took them ten days to get there. August PLEINES passed away on December 8, 1931 at Lodi, California, and Karolina passed away on April 7, 1969 at Sacramento, California. Both are buried in Elk Grove Cemetery.
