He was born on Jan. 10, 1941, to Ruben and Clara (Bettger) Bender in McClusky, N.D. He attended school in McClusky, N.D., Clarissa, Minn., and Hibbing. Will worked at Goodyear Tire for 11 years. He also worked in a refinery, construction and logging. His hobbies were fishing, woodworking and puzzles. Willie lived at the Guardian Angels Health and Rehabilitation Center for 13 years where he was know as the “social guy.” Willie’s family would like to thank the staff at Guardian Angels for the years of splendid care shown to their family.
He is survived by sisters: Leona (Pete) Faucett of North Fork, Calif., Betty (Robert) Anderson of Lincoln, Neb., Pearl Kruger of St. Cloud, Minn., Alvina (William) Tinsley of Superior, Wis., Linda (Darryl) Anderson of Hibbing; brothers, Orville (Betty) Bender of Superior, Jacob (Camie) Bender of Springfield, Mo., Richard (Beverly) Bender of Superior; sister-in-law, Nancy Bender of Hibbing; numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Clara in Nov. 2006, Ruben in May 2007; brother, Duane in June 2007; a niece and a nephew.
Funeral: Service will be on Monday, Sept. 17, at 11 a.m. at Range Funeral Home. Major Jonathan Fjellman will be officiant.
Visitation: Will be for one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Burial: Will be at the Maple Hill Cemetery.
Arrangements are with Range Funeral Home in Hibbing.
