George Memmer, 77, New Smyrna Beach, died Thursday, Oct. 26, 2006, with his family by his side. Mr. Memmer was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, retiring as a major. He was one of the 1st ANGLICO's sent to Korea twice, to Vietnam and continued to serve our country for 22 years as an artillery and ordinance expert. Mr. Memmer retired to New Smyrna Beach in 1969. He was currently a member of the Southeast Historical Society and volunteered every Friday at the local museum. In the past, he had been a member of East Coast Model Railroad Club (Board of Directors), New Smyrna Beach Yacht Club and local Coast Guard Auxiliary. His true passions were history and model trains. George is survived by his loving wife of 25 years, Ursula; children, Wolfgang and Bernadette Unger Jr., Edgewater, Sabine Corinna Unger and Tom Allen, New Smyrna Beach; grandchildren, Danielle and Richard Unger; brother, Howard and Maria Memmer, Pleasanton, Calif.; nephews, Harry James, Howard Eugene and William Memmer; and niece, Ivy Filba, Calif. The family requests memorial donations be made to the Southeast Historical Society, P.O. Box 968, New Smyrna Beach, FL 32170.
