Mrs. Carol Jean Serr Connell, formerly of Dyersburg passed away Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2012 at Sunrise Senior Living of Plano, Texas.
Mrs. Connell grew up in Lakeland, Fl. and attended The University of Memphis. She was a mother and homemaker and longtime member of First Baptist Church in Dyersburg where she taught Sunday School. She was active in Cub Scouting and Girl Scouts as a leader and as President and Life Member of the Alice Thurmond School PTA as well as the Medical Auxiliary and Dyersburg Garden Club. She was named Outstanding Young Woman by the Dyersburg Jaycees Club in 1970.
Mrs. Connell is survived by her husband, Dr. Joseph Donald "Don" Connell, two sons, Joseph Donald Connell, Jr. of Nashville and David Byron Connell of St. James, Mo., two daughters, Cindy Connell Russell of Dallas, Texas and Charlene Connell White of Dyersburg , twelve grandchildren, one great-grandchild and a sister, Shirley Post, of Jacksonville, Fl.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Byron and Bonnie Serr and a sister, Charlotte Williams.
Visitation will be held at Noon, Saturday Jan. 5, 2012 at First Baptist Church in Dyersburg with Funeral Services following at 2:00 pm. Interment will follow at Halls Cemetery in Halls, Tn.
The family request that memorials be made in lieu of flowers to The Connell Foundation for McIver's Grant Public Library or other organization of the donor's choice.
