"Anna Gustin, 101, formerly of Mandan, died July 10, 2005, at a Bismarck care center. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 14, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, with the Revs. Patrick Schumacher and Gary Benz officiating. Burial will be at St. Lawrence Cemetery, Flasher.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. today at Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan, from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. at St. Vincent's Care Center, Bismarck, from 3 to 9 p.m. at Weigel Funeral Home, and will continue one hour before the service at the church on Thursday. Flasher Christian Mother's rosary will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday, followed by a parish vigil service at 7:30 p.m. at Weigel Funeral Home.
Anna Gustin was born Oct. 5, 1903, the daughter of George Yantzer and Anna Marie (Renner) Yantzer at Crown Butte. She was united in marriage Oct. 23, 1923, to Frank Gustin. They farmed near Flasher until 1955, when they retired to Flasher. Frank died Nov. 23, 1967. In 1971, Anna moved to Mandan where she lived until October 2002, when she entered St. Vincent's Care Center.
She never had time to watch TV, as she was much to busy keeping her house clean and orderly, cooking, baking, quilting, putting puzzles together, reading the newspaper and making gift boxes out of pretty greeting cards. When company came, she, of course, had to feed them. She also loved sharing a rousing game of marbles, cards and rumacube while snacking on popcorn, nuts, candy or cookies. She loved how the world looked perfect and clean after a rain on a summer day. Nothing brought a brighter smile to her face than having a baby in her presence.
Again, heartfelt thanks to all of you that took the time and made the effort to be a part of her glorious life. The hope is that everyone will keep telling stories about Grandma Gustin so we can keep her alive for at least another hundred years.
Survivors include four daughters, Elizabeth Creed-ican, Klamath Falls, Ore., Cordella Wingenbach, Beu-lah, Clara Braun, Raleigh, and Johanna Ternes, Portland, Ore.; three sons and four daughters-in-law, Anthony and Dorothy, Billings, Mont., Roger and Vernis, Fulda, Minn., Herman and Cecelia, Broomfield, Colo., and Anisia Begger, Billings, Mont.; 56 grandchildren; 113 great-grandchildren; and 16 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Frank; two sons, Daniel and James; four sons-in-law, Morry Creedican, Ed Winginbach, Joseph Braun and Al Ternes; a daughter-in-law, Agnes Gustin, six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and 10 brothers and sisters.
Memorials are preferred to St. Vincent's Care Center or the charity of your choice.
